Meet WonKee...

1.    Name:  WonKee Moon

2.    Zodiac sign:  Sagitarius.  ROAR!

3.   Hometown: Newport Beach, CA

4.    Your favorite stroke: Breastroke(?)

5.    Lane you swim in and why your lane is better than the other lanes on the team:

I swim in Lane 6.  We’re really not better than any of the other lanes (except Lane 5), but my Marys and I usually have fun during practice!  Whooo!

  1. 6.   Tell us a little bit about your aquatics/sports background?

Hmmm, I’ve been swimming off and on since I was about 7.  After swimming D-3 in college, I started running a bit and doing triathlons for some variety.  Basically any repetitive motion activities, cuz I don’t have much hand-eye coordination.  Balls seem to always hit me in the face...

  1. 7.   When and why did you join DCAC (any interesting stories associated)?

I  joined DCAC around Christmas in 2005, a few months after I moved to DC.  I had actually started swimming with another team in DC before DCAC, but decided to switch because the other swimmers were kinda boring and the coach was always in a bad mood.  I was a little hesitant about swimming on a “gay” team, but I figured in the least I’d get a date out of it!  My first practice was at the Lab School with Coach Greg.  I swam with Geoff Huechling and remember that Pablo Fernandez was there and I thought he was a professor.

  1. 8.   What is your favorite kind of swim set/workout and why?

I tend to like longer sets with limited rest that give me time to get into a groove (see repetitive motion above).  I also like sets that are somewhat complex and have varying intervals because it keeps my mind occupied and makes the set go by faster.  (if you’ve ever been to one of the practices I’ve coached, the workout usually looks like a math problem, and Neill HATES them.)

  1. 9.   Do you compete, if so, what competitions are you planning on participating in the next year?

I do compete.  I wasn’t planning on it when I first joined the team, but did it for the social aspect.  I am signed up to do an Ironman in May, so may not swim as many meets as I’d like, but I’m hoping to swim all our focus meets.  I am definitely going to Gay Games this year.  It should be a blast, and um, I’ll be swimming too.

  1. 10.    Do you have any swimming/sports goals for the coming year?  If so, what are they?

Hmm, I would like to swim a fast 1000 or 1650.  I currently have an irrational pool-only distance swimming phobia and haven’t been able to finish anything over a 200 in like two years (cuckoo!).  I freak out!  Hopefully I will work out my neuroses this year.  I’d also like to weigh 3 pounds less than Fred.

  1. 11.   What do you love most about swimming?

I love swimming outdoors when there is a nice (Pacific) ocean breeze, being alone with my thoughts during a good practice, and not having B.O., except for chlorine.

  1. 12. What do you dislike the most about swimming?

I hate it when I just feel terrible in the water and feel like am floundering and going nowhere.  It drives me CRAZY.  When you see me getting out 20 minutes after workouts starts, I’m having one of those days.

  1. 13.   What's in your night stand drawer?

Nothing currently.  :-(

  1. 14.   Taylor Lautner, Robert Pattinson, or Kristen Stewart and why?

Umm, really none of them do anything for me.

  1. 15.   Ever "date" anyone on the team past or present?  Care to elaborate?

Uhhhh, maybe once...or twice, or...

  1. 16.   Anyone you want to date on the team?  Care to elaborate?

Hmm, not at the moment.  Most of the time, unless you strike on your prospective prey within the first month or so that  they join the team, you usually lose interest and they might as well be your sister.  Maybe it’s the whole lack of clothes thing.  No more mystery.  Sigh...

  1. 17.   If you could be anyone else on the swim team, who would you be and why?

I would be Will Z.  Everyone LOVES Will.

  1. 18.   Please describe DCAC in three words or less:

gay gay gay

  1. 19.   What is something that most other people on the team don't know about you?

Hmm, I was once on a TV game show and won a chili pepper eating contest, beating the 3 time champion who weighed like 250 pounds.

  1. 20.   How sick are you of these questions right about now?

These questions are amazing!  Whoever wrote them must be a genius!
