HOW TO JOIN

DCAC is a member of both United States Masters Swimming (USMS) and International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics (IGLA). When you first attend a DCAC workout, introduce yourself to the coach who will welcome you and direct you to the lane best-suited to your swimming speed.

DCAC welcomes all new swimmers of every ability level. As a courtesy to new swimmers, your first two practices with us are free of charge. If you wish to continue to swim with us, we require that you join the team. If you are a prospective new member, please contact the Captain (captain@swimdcac.org) or Membership Chair (membership@swimdcac.org) with any questions.

HOW TO JOIN DCAC OR RENEW YOUR DCAC MEMBERSHIP

To become a member, you need to do three things:

Step 1: Join U.S. Masters Swimming (USMS) for $37.00 per Calendar Year:

USMS is the national organizing body for all Masters swimmers in the United States. Registration with USMS is required for every calendar year in order for you to practice with DCAC and to be eligible to compete in meets. Included in your USMS membership is a calendar-year subscription to USMS’s SWIMMER Magazine and The Swimmer’s Ear newsletter published by our regional USMS Committee, Potomac Valley LMSC. USMS provides accident insurance to its members at team practices and at USMS-sanctioned events. To register online, click here. To register by mail, download and complete the form available here. If you are new to DCAC and already USMS registered, please contact the Potomac Valley registrar to change your USMS team affiliation. The registrar’s contact information can be found here.

Step 2: Join DCAC for $35 per Calendar Year:

To register, click here to complete the 2010 DCAC Registration Form and to pay the $35.00 Annual Membership Dues. In order to complete the DCAC Registration Form, you will need to have joined or renewed your membership with USMS first. There is a link on the USMS verification page where you can look up your USMS number if you don’t remember it. When you complete the Registration Form, you will be asked which Pool Dues structure you wish to use.

Step 3: Pay Pool Dues:

DCAC’s Pool Dues are tied to DCAC Registration. At the time of Registration, you will be asked which Pool Dues structure you wish to use for 2010; your options are Annual, Quarterly, Monthly or Per Swim. Club Assistant will automatically charge the credit card you give at the time of Registration at the appropriate interval for Annual, Quarterly and Monthly pool dues. Below is a breakdown of DCAC’s Pool Dues structure.

Annual Pool Dues ($500.00/Year): If you choose this option, your credit card will be charged a one time payment of $500.00. This option is only valid in the months of January and February 2010.

Quarterly Pool Dues ($135.00/Quarter): If you choose this option, your credit card will be charged four times per year, $135.00 each time. The charges will take place in January, April, July and October.

Monthly Pool Dues ($55.00/Month): If you choose this option, your credit card will be charged twelve times per year, $55.00 each time. These charges will happen once a month.

Per Swim Pool Dues ($10.00/Practice): If you wish to pay per swim, you may pay $10 at the door to the Coach on deck or any DCAC Board Member. Checks should be made payable to D.C. Aquatics Club. Please include the number of swims in the Memo line.

Failure to register for USMS and DCAC and to pay Pool Dues prior to practice will result in you not being permitted to swim. Pool dues may be reduced on an individual basis at the discretion of the Board. If you wish to change your Pool Dues structure throughout the course of the year, you must contact the Treasurer in advance. Please contact the Treasurer (treasurer(at)swimdcac(dot)org) or any Board Member for more information.

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY

From time to time, we are forced to cancel practices due to inclement weather (i.e., snow or thunderstorm). In the event of inclement weather, the Board will make every attempt to notify members via email that practice has been canceled. For practices in Washington, DC, you can call the pool to verify they will be open. For a directory of DC Department of Parks & Recreation pool telephone numbers, click here.

In the event of a thunderstorm, we are required to evacuate the pool for the safety of swimmers, regardless if the pool is an indoor or outdoor. We are not allowed to resume practice until 30 minutes from the last sound of thunder.

If you have any comments or concerns about this policy, please email the Captain (captain(at)swimdcac.org)
